Mayo Clinic has launched a first-in-the-U.S. clinical test that will help patients who recently have been diagnosed with an inflammatory demyelinating disease (IDD) but may be unsure of the exact disorder.
BioScale Inc., a privately-held life science company that develops, manufactures and promotes a new generation of protein analytics technology, today announced that it has secured $25 million in its recent financing round. Led by new investor Morningside Venture, this round will be used to expand manufacturing operations and commercial sales of the ViBE protein analytics systems. A study published this month in The New England Journal of Medicine, "Mortality Attributable to Smoking in China," provides an estimate of the number of premature deaths in China in 2005 that were caused by smoking.
Treatment of pelvic nodes individualized by inclusion of sentinel nodes can be easily integrated into an IMRT-based treatment strategy, according to the new study conducted by a group of researchers from T-bingen and Munich in Germany. The target volume concept seems to correctly cover individual pelvic nodes, which is indicated by the absence of any nodal recurrence within five years of follow-up.
During the last few weeks of a woman's pregnancy, many keep an overnight bag ready to go at a moment's notice in case they begin to go into labor. They do this because there is no clear signal that labor is about to begin - before the body makes it abundantly clear that this process has started. Understanding the mechanisms that initiate this process is especially important when treating women at risk of going into labor early.
