Global health organizations will launch a $30 million polio vaccination campaign on Saturday in West and Central Africa aimed at immunizing 85 million children under age 5, the Joint Global Polio Eradication Initiative and the International Federation of the Red Cross said on Thursday, Agence France-Presse reports (3/4).
On 16 April 2010 the European Association of Urology opened its 25th Anniversary Congress. During the ceremony, several urological experts were honoured with awards for the outstanding work they did for the urological community. EAU Secretary General Per-Anders Abrahamsson handed them out.
Heart attacks are more dangerous in the morning than at any other time of day, research has shown. The study has shown that compared with other times, patients who had an attack between 6am and noon suffered around 20% more damage to their hearts. Researchers say this pattern is thought to be linked to circadian rhythms, the 24-hour "body clock" processes that influence many biological functions including blood pressure.
Researchers at Mount Sinai School of Medicine have found that thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), a hormone produced in the anterior pituitary gland that regulates endocrine function in the thyroid gland, can promote bone growth independent of its usual thyroid functions.
Australian researchers say those living in coastal areas are probably more at risk for skin cancer because they spend more time in the sun.
