Writing in the International Health Policies blog, Rachel Hammonds of the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Belgium, writes about a "panel discussion organized by several [members of the European Parliament], the Stop Aids Alliance and others at the European Parliament on 8 April" that discussed the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Paid caregivers make it possible for seniors to remain living in their homes. The problem, according to a new Northwestern Medicine study, is that more than one-third of caregivers had difficulty reading and understanding health-related information and directions. Sixty percent made errors when sorting medications into pillboxes.
The visual thalamus is classically known to relay visual stimuli coming from the retina to the cerebral cortex. Researchers from the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology now show that although neurons in the mouse visual thalamus connect to both eyes, they establish strong functional connections only with one retina.
