Biomoda, Inc., a development stage medical diagnostics company, announced it has been granted a notice of allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its invention directed to the "Method for Prognosing Response to Cancer Therapy with 5,10,15,20-Tetrakis (Carboxyphenyl) Porphine."
Dr. Marisa Weiss, president and founder of Breastcancer.org and a breast oncologist in the Philadelphia area submitted a letter to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration prior to the Oncology Drug Advisory Committee (ODAC) meeting to review data for Avastin's use in metastatic HER2-negative breast cancer. In light of today's news that the FDA has recommended removing Avastin's approval to treat breast cancer, Breastcancer.org is making public Dr. Weiss' ODAC letter in its entirety.
BMJ News reports on South African Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi's visit to the U.S. last week, where he spoke at a forum in Washington, D.C., on the efforts the government is making to promote HIV prevention and treatment and improve the country's health system. The publication notes that the health ministry has set a goal of testing the HIV status of 15 million people in the country by the end of the year - "nearly a third of its population of 50 million."
New research, to be revealed on Tuesday 26th of April at the launch of the University of Warwick Medical School's new Clinical Sciences Research Institute at the University Hospital campus at Walsgrave in Coventry, has shown that very simple interventions to target the health care of UK Asian diabetics can almost wipe out the 40% higher risks of heart disease linked to diabetes in that community.
