Scientists in Switzerland are uncovering new clues about how cancer cells grow - and how they can be killed - by studying stem cells, 'blank' cells that have the potential to develop into fully mature or 'differentiated' cells and other scientists in UK have made a breakthrough in understanding the cause of the most common form of childhood cancer, acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL).
Why is it harder for kids in low- and middle-income countries to grow as well as kids in wealthy countries? Food security, or access to good nutrition, remains a major challenge. The issue is not just food supply but poor sanitation - a problem exacerbated by local infrastructure and cultural mores.
In the wake of Queensland's devastating floods there are warnings to residents, volunteers and others regarding protection against diseases. Australian Medical Association Queensland president-elect Dr Richard Kidd said he expected a number of diseases to appear as a result of people coming in contact with floodwaters and especially the mud left behind.
ESTEVE, a pharmaceutical company focused on developing novel therapeutics for pain today announces positive top line results from its recently completed phase II trial, which was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of E-58425 in acute pain.
