Findings published today provide evidence that exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) causes changes in thyroid hormone signalling, which disturbs brain development.
With the current outbreak of influenza-like illnesses, many people are trying to boost their immune systems with supplements. Ginseng is often a key ingredient, but its therapeutic use may extend far beyond that. Researchers are now investigating whether ginseng can help relieve health problems ranging from diabetes to depression to erectile dysfunction.
Findings from a 24-week Phase 3 clinical study published online in the latest issue of Diabetes Care demonstrated that the investigational drug dapagliflozin, administered as a monotherapy, achieved statistically significant mean reductions at 5 mg and 10 mg doses once daily in the primary endpoint of glycosylated hemoglobin levels (HbA1c) in treatment-naïve adult patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes, compared to placebo.
EraGen Biosciences Inc. today announced that it will host a corporate workshop at the upcoming Clinical Virology Symposium, which is being held May 8-11 in Daytona Beach, Fla. The workshop will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.
Noting U.N. peacekeepers played a role in bringing cholera to Haiti, Victoria Fan, a research fellow at the Center for Global Development (CGD), writes in the group's "Global Health Policy" blog, "Blame aside, there are undoubtedly lessons to be learned by looking back at how this epidemic came to pass in Haiti. More importantly, looking ahead there are key steps that should be taken to eliminate cholera in Haiti."
