Inspire Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today financial results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2009, reporting a net loss of $2.6 million or ($0.03) per share for the fourth quarter and a net loss of $40.0 million or ($0.60) per share for the full year.
Obesity is now acknowledged as a chronic disease with a number of related complications, and its prevalence has reached alarming epidemic proportions. While bariatric surgery is effective at treating the disease, access to this procedure is still too limited in Canada.
AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the operator of the largest non-government HIV testing program in California, today praised the California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signing Assembly Bill 221, legislation which updates and streamlines the training of counselors for rapid HIV testing by exempting persons administering finger stick rapid HIV tests from the requirement for certification as a limited phlebotomy technician (LPT).
Patients at increased risk for gastrointestinal cancer now have access to a new multidisciplinary program at Loyola University Health System.
Enemas are commonly used by men who have sex with men (MSM) and transwomen (TW) before sexual intercourse. But these groups are vulnerable to HIV and a host of other sexually transmitted infections because enemas - even those that use tap water - can seriously damage the thin tissue lining the rectum, allowing for easier transmission of harmful viruses and bacteria.
