More than a thousand years ago, somewhere in Southeast Asia, a fateful meeting occurred between a mosquito-borne virus that infected mainly monkeys and a large, susceptible group of humans.
Three out of five women who have given birth to a child with a congenital heart defect (CHD) - the number-one birth defect and leading killer of infants and newborns - were never tested for the defect during pregnancy. This is according to a survey just released by Little Hearts, Inc., a national organization that provides support, education, resources, networking and hope to families affected by congenital heart defects.
Pfizer Inc. today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved MYLOTARG (gemtuzumab ozogamicin) for adults with newly diagnosed CD33-positive acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and adults and children 2 years and older with relapsed or refractory CD33-positive AML.
At a press conference featuring healthcare leaders from throughout the state, Governor Donald L. Carcieri will announce that Rhode Island has launched a new system for tracking swine flu. Unprecedented in its approach, the system makes use of prescribing data provided by pharmacies throughout the state via a secure electronic link. In yet another first for the state and the nation, Rhode Island will also announce that it has now connected 100 percent of its retail pharmacies for e-prescribing.
3M Health Care today announced the introduction of a full line of new, innovative Tegaderm™ High Performance Foam Adhesive Dressings. In clinical and laboratory tests, these new adhesive foam wound dressings outperform other leading foam adhesive dressings in managing the full range of low- to high-moisture conditions that can be present in chronic and acute wounds.
