How many more apples can a school cafeteria sell if the fruit is displayed in an attractive basket and placed in a well-lit area? That's the sort of question researchers from the Cornell Food and Brand Lab are exploring as part of their Smarter Lunchrooms Initiative-an effort to discover and share low-cost changes that can be made in lunchrooms to subtly guide smarter food choices.
Preliminary study data show that axitinib may be an effective first-line treatment for metastatic renal cell carcinoma, particularly in patients with high therapeutic drug exposure and a rise in blood pressure during the first 2 weeks of treatment, researchers report.
"Current negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA) between the European Union and India are causing serious concern in many quarters over future access to cheap generic medicines used to treat some of the world's great public health threats: HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, and also cancer," Philippe Douste-Blazy, U.N. special adviser on innovative financing for development and chair of UNITAID, and Denis Broun, executive director of UNITAID, write in this post in the Guardian's "Poverty Matters Blog."
In the largest, deepest search to date, the international Genetic Investigation of Anthropometric Traits Consortium has uncovered 83 new DNA changes that affect human height.
As nations begin to recover, researchers from the National Taiwan University and Academia Sinica in Taipei have been looking to identify the changes the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) underwent over the course of the pandemic in order to better understand why the disease showed such virulence.
