The lung lesions in an individual infected with tuberculosis are surprisingly variable and independent of each other, despite whether the patient has clinically active or latent disease, according to a new animal study led by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The findings, published online today in Nature Medicine, could point the way to new vaccines to prevent the hard-to-treat infection.
It is well known that smoking leads to a reduction in levels of fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), which is a marker for airway inflammation.
Black women have higher recurrence and mortality rates than non-Hispanic white women for certain types of breast cancer, according to a University of Illinois Chicago researcher's study published recently in JAMA Oncology.
Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI) significantly contributes to the detection of malignant or high-risk lesions in patients with negative or indeterminate mammographic findings, according to results of a multicenter study presented today at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).
