Lee H. Hamilton, Vice Chair of the 9-11 Commission, appeared today at a reception hosted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to receive a recommendation on emergency preparedness and business continuity.
The University of Arkansas will host the 2010 Advances in Breast Cancer Research workshop sponsored by the National Science Foundation on Oct. 26-29. The workshop will bring together researchers in nanotechnology, biomagnetics, microwave imaging, acoustics, laser and biochemistry fields with researchers from radiology, oncology and breast surgery.
Cancer scientists led by Dr. John Dick at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre have found a way to follow single tumour cells and observe their growth over time. By using special immune-deficient mice to propagate human colorectal cancer, they found that genetic mutations, regarded by many as the chief suspect driving cancer growth, are only one piece of the puzzle. The team discovered that biological factors and cell behaviour - not only genes - drive tumour growth, contributing to therapy failure and relapse.
MedQuist Inc., a leading provider of technology-enabled clinical documentation services, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Nuance Communications, Inc. (Nuance) under which MedQuist will now license Nuance's SpeechMagic speech recognition engine and processing software for use in SpeechQ of General Medicine(TM), MedQuist's front-end speech recognition application for all medical disciplines.
