Chronic and non-healing wounds-one of the most devastating complications of diabetes and the leading cause of limb amputation-affects millions of Americans each year. Due to the complex nature of these wounds, proper clinical treatment has been limited.
New Mayo Clinic research suggests that blood may hold clues to whether post-menopausal women may be at an increased risk for areas of brain damage that can lead to memory problems and possibly increased risk of stroke. The study shows that blood's tendency to clot may contribute to areas of brain damage called white matter hyperintensities.
A research team led by investigators of the Rockefeller University in New York and Prof Florian Klein, University Hospital Cologne and German Center for Infection Research, has tested a new HIV neutralising antibody, called 10-1074, in humans.
Researchers at the University of Washington have successfully created a line of human embryonic stem cells that have the ability to develop into a far broader range of tissues than most existing cell lines.
