In a paper published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research, Sanjaya Saxena, M.D., Director of the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders (OCD) Program at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine, reports the surprising finding that the serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SRI) medication, paroxetine, is effective in treating patients with compulsive hoarding syndrome.
Researchers believe that children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are at risk for alcohol- as well as other substance-related problems as they grow older.
Lakewood-Amedex Inc., a leading developer of novel anti-infective pharmaceuticals, announced today that a recent series of in vitro studies conducted by Southern Research in Birmingham, Alabama, have demonstrated that its novel class of antimicrobials, named bisphosphocins, have proven effective at killing multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria responsible for the chronic lung infection tuberculosis.
