An experimental compound synthesized and developed by scientists from the Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute has the capacity to significantly reduce joint inflammation in animal models of rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disease that affects more than two million Americans.
Despite the volume of prostate cancer tests and treatments, experts and their patients are continually challenged to predict the disease's course and apply the most appropriate treatment. Now, two new diagnostic innovations – the PCA3 urine test and a more targeted prostate biopsy technique - could refine the way doctors diagnose prostate cancer and, subsequently, the way patients elect to treat it.
Two Montana State University researchers in different disciplines have teamed up to tackle the problem of arsenic poisoning, which is estimated by the World Health Organization to affect more than 100 million people worldwide, primarily through tainted drinking water.
With the overhaul continuing to be a divisive issue, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle - as well as the measure's advocates and opponents - have put in place messages and plans to keep their arguments strong.
The Kenneth Rainin Foundation announced today that it will grant $2.2 million to scientists to conduct Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) research. The Rainin Foundation offers support for cutting-edge projects that typically are not eligible for funding from more traditional sources due to their ground-breaking, pioneering nature.
