Covidien, a leading global provider of healthcare products, today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Neurological Devices Advisory Panel voted to recommend approval for Pipeline Embolization Device, intended for the endovascular treatment of large or giant wide-necked intracranial aneurysms in the cavernous and paraclinoid regions of the internal carotid artery.
"For all its importance to human well-being, agriculture seems to be one of the lagging economic sectors of the last two decades," Tyler Cowen, a professor of economics at George Mason University, writes in a New York Times opinion piece.
Depression may compound the risk of developing type 2 diabetes in people with such early warning signs of metabolic disease as obesity, high blood pressure and unhealthy cholesterol levels, according to researchers from McGill University, l'Université de Montréal, the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal and the University of Calgary.
A form of 'virtual-reality' therapy may help people with alcohol dependence reduce their craving for alcohol, a new study suggests. The findings, published in the July issue of the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, come from a small study of just 10 patients.
