Airborne radiation from a meltdown at Japanese nuclear plants poses no immediate risk to the continental United States, say University of Maryland public health and atmospheric scientists.
In September, Children's Hospital Los Angeles physicians predicted it was a matter of when, and not if, Los Angeles children would become infected with Enterovirus EV-D68, commonly referred to as enterovirus D68. On Oct. 1, that day came. CHLA and public health officials announced that a young patient who had been hospitalized at CHLA with a respiratory illness and later experienced partial limb paralysis had tested positive for enterovirus D68.
Masimo, the inventor of Pulse CO-Oximetry and Measure-Through Motion and Low Perfusion pulse oximetry, announced today that a new clinical study published in the May 2010 issue of Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica shows that Masimo pleth variability index can be used to help clinicians assess risk for mean arterial pressure decreases and subsequent hypotension during anesthesia administration.
Researchers report that home blood pressure monitoring provides a reliable indicator of blood pressure control in elderly patients.
