PRESSURE sores are a major healthcare problem with potentially serious medical consequences for patients. They are also a massive drain on NHS resources. Now, a research project at the University of Huddersfield aims to develop a method for enabling manufactures of medical devices to reduce the risk that that their products could cause ulcerations because of contact with skin.

World's first organ donor dies at 79

On December 23, 1954, Dr. Joseph Murray performed the world's first kidney transplant removing a kidney from Ronald Herrick and implanting it in his identical twin Richard. Years later, Murray shared a Nobel Prize for his groundbreaking work. For the Herrick twins, the results were more immediate and personal. Richard lived for about eight more years because of Ronald's donation.

Combining antibody markers to improve serosurveillance for SARS-CoV-2

The current study found that combining N antibodies with nucleocapsid-specific IgG facilitates a better classification of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Interleukin-15 encourages CD8+ T cells to proliferate and reduces their tolerance to tumor antigens

Certain types of white blood cells assist the body in destroying cancerous tumors. Among these are CD8+ T cells. The T is for thymus, the gland near the base of the throat that both raises up and weeds out blood cells involved in immune responses.
