Yogurt containing probiotic bacteria successfully protected children and pregnant women against heavy metal exposure in a recent study.
In a study to be presented today at the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine's annual meeting, The Pregnancy Meeting -, in Dallas, Texas, researchers will report findings that suggest that induction of labor in patients who suffer a rupture of membranes between the 34th and 37th week of gestation (before the onset of labor) does not reduce the risk of infection or respiratory problems in the newborn.
Scientists from the National Institutes of Health and University of Chicago have found a promising treatment method that in laboratory mice reduces the severity of skin and soft-tissue damage caused by USA300, the leading cause of community-associated Staphylococcus aureus infections in the United States.
A nationwide survey of hospitals has revealed a wide variety of approaches to newborn skincare – including the timing of the first bath – that could ultimately have lasting effects on a baby's health and wellbeing.
