An experimental drug for a rare, inherited form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) has shown promise in a phase 1/phase 2 clinical trial conducted at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and other sites around the world and sponsored by the pharmaceutical company Biogen Inc.
In a recent study, researchers report how the SARS-CoV-2 proteome in 3D has evolved during the first six months of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Royal Life Saving Society, Australia is alarmed at the rise in drownings in waterways around the country. With 314 people dying in a year the figures are at a seven year high. 80% of these were males. The Society noted a 27% rise in the numbers since 2002.
A new study done by researchers at Wake Forest University School of Medicine shows that social stress could be an important precursor to heart disease by causing the body to deposit more fat in the abdominal cavity, speeding the harmful buildup of plaque in blood vessels, a stepping stone to the number one cause of death in the world.
