Researchers at Queen's University Belfast and University College London have discovered that a drug, originally developed to treat cardiovascular disease, has the potential to reduce diabetes related blindness.
Ground-breaking research in the June issue of Integrative Cancer Therapies published by SAGE explored whether ovarian cancer has a scent different from other cancers and whether working dogs could be taught to distinguish it in its different stages.
The vision community is discussing with the Food and Drug Administration how vision-related patient-reported outcomes might be used in improving the labeling of ophthalmic treatments and products. The group — composed of researchers, clinicians, policymakers and representatives from industry and vision associations — attended a one-day symposium sponsored by the National Institutes of Health's National Eye Institute and the FDA on October 13, 2009.
One in 10 women experience depression during pregnancy or shortly after giving birth. Although the problem has received increased attention in recent years, little is known about the causes or early-warning signs of pregnancy-related depression. In a study published in the June 2011 issue of Journal of Women's Health, researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine offer new clues to help doctors identify at-risk patients and refer them to treatment early on.
Soon the complaints about the short time doctors spend with their patients may be a thing of the past. Robots, artificial speakers (smart speakers like Siri or Alexa) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) could help lend an ear to patient complaints says a report from the NHS.
