Advanced Cell Technology, Inc., a leader in the field of regenerative medicine, announced today first quarter financial results for the period ended March 31, 2011. The Company reported a loss from operations of $(4.8) million compared to a loss from operations of $(15.0) million in the 2010 first quarter.
A March 2010 independent survey of 1,472 retirees covered by Medicare revealed that while 59% are "very" or "somewhat" confident Medicare will be available the rest of their lives, just 20% have the same confidence it will be here for the succeeding generation. In fact, 62% of respondents are not confident that Medicare will be here for their children.
Researchers have developed a model to predict the benefits of statin treatment in individual patients with Type 2 diabetes, but experts question whether individualised treatment is always the best choice.
Researchers at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) have announced the discovery of a gene that plays a significant role in memory performance in humans.
Harvard stem cell scientists have successfully converted skins cells from patients with early-onset Alzheimer's into the types of neurons that are affected by the disease, making it possible for the first time to study this leading form of dementia in living human cells. This may also make it possible to develop therapies far more quickly and accurately than before.
