An international collaboration jointly led by scientists from Trinity College Dublin has shed new light on the origins and molecular causes of age related degenerative conditions including Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The new perspective provided by this work may lead the way to new treatments and early diagnoses.
Twenty-eight WCMC-Q students have received grants totaling $280,000 in the latest, seventh, round of funding from the Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP) to conduct advanced research projects with faculty members.
Tuberculosis (TB) is second only to HIV/AIDS as the greatest killer worldwide attributable to a single infectious agent, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). With 8.8 million cases in 2010 and 95 percent of TB deaths occurring in low- and middle-income countries, the disease continues to be a major public health problem in the developing world. In a July address to the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, Dartmouth's C. Fordham (Ford) von Reyn shared news of a promising vaccine in the works.
If functionality of the brain's amygdala is impaired, illusory perceptions arise much faster and more pronounced.
In obese individuals, endurance exercise improves fitness and increases the number of mitochondria * and cellular respiration in skeletal muscles.
