In the first clinical trial of an injectable vaccine containing trimeric HIV envelope protein (gp140) relevant to the predominant strain of HIV in Africa, researchers from four UK academic centers (St George's University London, Imperial College, Hull York Medical School (HYMS; University of York) and the Medical Research Council Clinical Trial Unit) and from the Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI) have come together to evaluate whether the vaccine is safe for use in human volunteers.
The quinolinone derivative cilostazol may be associated with reduced restenosis, reocclusion, and clinically driven target lesion revascularization 3 months after infrapopliteal angioplasty, researchers say.
The study found that women had significantly higher rates compared to their male counterparts, but did not find significant differences between injection drug users and non-injection drug users.
Employees from Unison Health Plan, part of AmeriChoice, the nation's largest Medicaid managed care company, have donated 1,243 pairs of socks to Operation Safety Net, helping Pittsburgh's homeless.
This year's unique BioInfect conference organised by Bionow, a not for profit membership organisation for the biomedical / life-sciences industry, was a major success.
