In a study published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, a University of Wisconsin-Madison research team pinpoints how immune abnormalities beneath the retina result in macular degeneration, a common condition that often causes blindness.
The interim report highlighted 2012/13 expenditure on hospital medicines was a staggering £6.5bn – an 11% increase over the previous year. Lord Carter believed there were greater savings to be had by managing the demand for products through better inventory management rather than price reductions and that a target of £500m – 1bn savings on the £9bn procurement spend was realistic.
Survival rates for elderly patients who received stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for early stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) rose from roughly 40 to 60 percent over the past decade, concurrent with the increasing adoption of SBRT, according to research presented today at the 58th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology.
Myriad Genetics, Inc. today said data that provides further clinical validation supporting its newest molecular diagnostic product, PROLARIS™, was recently presented at the 2010 Genitourinary Cancers Symposium in San Francisco. The abstract of the presentation entitled: "Cell Cycle Genes Predict Recurrence After Radical Prostatectomy" by Gregory P. Swanson, M.D., University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, and colleagues is now available on the American Society of Clinical Oncology's website, www.asco.org.
