Women have smaller, more breakable nerve fibers in the brain compared to men that may make them more susceptible to concussions, suggests a new study from Penn Medicine neuroscientists published online today in the journal Experimental Neurology.
BioMarker Strategies announced today that it has raised $1.7 million in a private placement funding round that occurred in conjunction with the Maryland Biotechnology Investment Incentive Tax Credit Program. BioMarker Strategies is developing the patent-pending, SnapPathâ„¢ testing system to enable oncologists to determine the most effective drug treatment for their cancer patients.
Severely obese patients who had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery had significant weight loss that was sustained for an average of 6 years after the surgery and also experienced frequent remission and lower incidence of diabetes, hypertension, and abnormal cholesterol levels, compared to participants who did not have the surgery, according to a study in the September 19 issue of JAMA, and theme issue on obesity.
Pharmasset, Inc. announced today that the interim results from the PROPEL study conducted by its partner Roche demonstrate that RG7128 triple combination therapy was safe and well tolerated. In that study, the safety profile of RG7128 (1000mg BID or 500mg BID), when administered for 8 or 12 weeks with Pegasys (peginterferon alfa-2a) and Copegus (ribavirin), the standard of care, was similar to the safety profile of SOC alone.
British scientists have discovered that blood-pressure drugs can reverse the effects of early-stage liver failure in some patients.
