Many marijuana smokers begin early. A new study shows that these people did much worse on tests of executive brain function than those who started smoking when they were older. Researchers highlight the danger posed by marijuana and the need to develop effective strategies to reduce marijuana use, especially among young people in their study.
The deadline for approval or rejection of new drugs by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) could be extended by two months say U.S. regulators and drug industry officials.
Childhood obesity has more than doubled in the past 30 years. Now, an extensive and long-term research project aims at identifying the causes of this dramatic increase. In a study including 16.000 children from across Europe and spanning over several years, scientists are now trying to determine possible genetic and social factors influencing obesity in children.
Researchers at the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and colleagues have found that adding a drug once commonly used to treat schizophrenia to traditional radiation therapy helped improve overall survival in mice with glioblastoma, one of the deadliest and most difficult-to-treat brain tumors.
Amicus Therapeutics today announced that it has entered into definitive agreements dated February 25, 2010 with a select group of institutional investors to sell 4.95 million shares of its common stock and warrants to purchase 1.85 million shares of its common stock in a "registered direct" offering. The shares of common stock and warrants are being offered in units consisting of one share of common stock and one warrant to purchase 0.375 shares of common stock at a price of $3.74 per unit.
