There was a time when a C-Section caused both doctors and pregnant mothers' anxiety, but not anymore. If the current trends are anything to go by more women are opting for a voluntary Caesarean baby than ever before. They have risen from 53% since 1996 to 2007. This is considerably higher than the figures for 1994 to 1998 which are at 21%.
Researchers have produced a lasting anti-cocaine immunity in mice by giving them a safe vaccine that combines bits of the common cold virus with a particle that mimics cocaine.
Over the past few years, body mass index, a ratio of a person's height and weight, has effectively become a proxy for whether a person is considered healthy. Many U.S. companies use their employees' BMIs as a factor in determining workers' health care costs. And people with higher BMIs could soon have to pay higher health insurance premiums, if a rule proposed in April by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is adopted.
In a study to be presented today at the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine's (SMFM) annual meeting, The Pregnancy Meeting -, in Chicago, researchers will unveil findings that show that it is not cost effective to screen for spinal muscular atrophy.
Antibiotics alone likely cannot overcome the complex factors that cause stunted growth and perpetuate the cycle of poverty in the developing world, new research suggests.
