During the COVID-19 pandemic, Joseph S. Alpert, MD, Editor-in-Chief of The American Journal of Medicine, published by Elsevier, has observed that although non-COVID inpatients suffered from the usual mix of conditions such as heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease exacerbations, the Internal Medicine inpatient population was distinctly different from what he had seen over the past decades.
Three University of Massachusetts Amherst scientists have received a four-year, $1.2 million EUREKA grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study folding and misfolding of secretory proteins in the cell's protein factory, the endoplasmic reticulum, where misfolding can lead to diseases such as cystic fibrosis and liver cirrhosis.
Palm oil contains abundant quantities of vitamin E compounds, which include tocopherols and tocotrienols.These compounds have anti-oxidant effects, which protect cells from damage from toxic chemical produced by metabolic processes.
On behalf of the more than 53,000 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists has released an official statement, titled "CRNAs: We are the Answer" " which highlights evidenced-based analysis of CRNAs, physician anesthesiologists, and anesthesiologist assistants in today's healthcare system.
In a preliminary study, researchers find that vitamin E may be effective in restoring sudden onset hearing loss of unknown origin (idiopathic sudden hearing loss). These findings suggest that further research may reveal the role of antioxidants in the prevention and restoration of hearing loss.
