Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, have discovered that a small-molecule drug simultaneously perks up old stem cells in the brains and muscles of mice, a finding that could lead to drug interventions for humans that would make aging tissues throughout the body act young again.
Tumor cells have several routes that enable them to move from the primary tumor to distant tissues, a process called metastasis. It is metastasis of the primary tumor that kills most cancer patients. One of the least studied routes of metastasis is the lymphatic system. Many tumors produce factors that promote the formation of new lymphatic vessels (lymphangiogenesis).
Studies have shown that some parents are reluctant to have their children immunized because they fear their children will experience significant pain during and after the injections.
Following research by Professor Bill Keevil at the University of Southampton showing that copper can significantly reduce the presence of MRSA, the University, in partnership with the Copper Development Association, is hosting a live experiment that will show the effectiveness of antimicrobial copper in preventing MRSA infections.
Since successful antiretroviral therapies have made HIV a treatable condition, more HIV patients who are also infected with hepatitis B or C are experiencing the progression of their liver disease.
