A research team led by scientists from Brigham and Women's Hospital has developed a novel technology platform that enables the continuous and automated monitoring of so-called "organs-on-chips" - tiny devices that incorporate living cells to mimic the biology of bona fide human organs.
It was a sad day recently when a married menopausal woman learned that her recent Pap test was positive for human papilloma virus (HPV). "How could this happen?" she asked. "I have not had relations with anyone but my husband since we married 30 years ago."
The American Clean Skies Foundation (ACSF) released a new report today on the plans of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to adopt stricter pollution controls for electric power plants. The report concludes that the EPA's proposed actions are likely to spur major changes in the fuels used by the utility sector - with greater reliance on cleaner sources such as natural gas and renewable energy - and should not present reliability concerns.
While everyone who climbs into an indoor tanning bed faces an increased risk of skin cancer, this risk is especially pronounced for young people: Using indoor tanning beds before age 35 can increase one's risk of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, by 59 percent, and this risk increases with each use.
