To cut medical-malpractice costs, five New York City hospitals have agreed to a pilot program to divulge medical mistakes early, offer settlements quickly and use special state 'health courts,' where judges will help negotiate agreements before cases go to trial. The program, funded for three years with $3 million from the federal government, aims to cut the $1.4 billion spent annually in New York State on medical-malpractice premiums, hospital and state officials say.
Government cuts to alcohol taxes have had dramatic consequences for public health, including nearly 2000 more alcohol-related deaths in England since 2012, according to new research from the University of Sheffield's School of Health and Related Research.
GenMark Diagnostics, Inc., a provider of automated, multiplex molecular diagnostic testing systems, announced today that its initial public offering of 4,600,000 shares of its common stock has been priced at $6.00 per share. The shares are expected to begin trading today on the NASDAQ Global Market under the ticker symbol "GNMK."
