A new study at Rhode Island Hospital has found that academic medical centers have higher rates of recall following mammography than community radiology centers. The recall rate is the frequency at which a radiologist interprets an examination as positive and the patient is instructed to return for more testing.
A small study of 20 people with Parkinson's disease suggests that "virtual house calls" using Web-based video conferencing provide clinical benefits comparable to in-person physician office visits, while saving patients and their caregivers time and travel.
The overall percentage of people who think getting a financial incentive would be extremely or very useful for choosing a more effective treatment decreased from 61 percent in 2009 to 55 percent in 2010, according to new report released today by the nonpartisan Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI).
Women fighting breast cancer after a lumpectomy have a new weapon in the battle, now available at Jupiter Medical Center's Foshay Cancer Center. Today, the hospital began treating patients with the Multi-Lumen MammoSite(R) device, just approved in September by the FDA.
