Henry Ford Hospital physicist Lei Ren, Ph.D., is among an elite group to be awarded for basic science research in radiation oncology at the 52nd annual American Society for Radiology Oncology (ASTRO) meeting in San Diego.
The American Academy of Pain Medicine is pleased to announce its 2015 Pain Medicine Fellowship Excellence Award Recipients in recognition of a Pain Medicine Fellowship Program that provides an exceptional learning experience to its fellows, preparing them to deliver the highest standard of care to patients with pain.
A condition that temporarily causes heart failure in people who experience severe stress might actually protect the heart from very high levels of adrenaline, according to a new study published in the journal Circulation. The research provides the first physiological explanation for Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, also called "broken heart syndrome" because it affects people who suffer severe emotional stress after bereavement, and suggests guidance for treatment.
In a report released on Tuesday, "the international humanitarian relief organization Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, has said a new $10 billion global vaccination plan "fails to address the 20 percent of babies - some 19 million infants - who never receive basic, life-saving shots," and that, "rather than pushing for novel vaccines, the plan should focus more concretely on strategies to get existing vaccines to children," Nature's "News Blog" reports.
Young cancer survivors face unique medical and psychosocial challenges that can hinder their ability to move on mentally and socially, even years after their final treatment.
