The research team at Lyon has developed an animal model carrying a mutation of the DCC gene. Mice carrying the mutation develop tumours, because this gene can no longer induce the death of the cancer cells. DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma) is a rare malignant cerebral tumour in children. It has only a 1% 5-year survival rate, amongst other things because it is not possible to operate because the tumour is located in the brain stem.
