Researchers find disparities among children suffering from repeated ear infections

Research has documented that ethnic and socioeconomic disparities exist among patients with conditions such as heart disease and diabetes. Now, a new study by researchers from UCLA and Harvard University has found disparities among children suffering from repeated ear infections. The findings, published in the August edition of the journal Laryngoscope, show that frequent ear infections plague white children and children living below the poverty level more than children of other racial or ethnic backrounds or income levels.

Cryo-Cell second-quarter consolidated revenues decrease to $4.3 million

Cryo-Cell International, Inc., one of the world's largest and most established family cord blood banks, today announced results for the second quarter ended May 31, 2010. Consolidated revenues for the second quarter of fiscal 2010 were $4.3 million compared to $4.7 million for the second quarter of fiscal 2009.

Depression may increase risk of Alzheimer's disease in people with memory problems

People with memory problems who are depressed are more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease compared to people who are not depressed, according to a study published in the June 16, 2009, print issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology. However, the research also shows that the popular Alzheimer's drug donepezil may delay the progression to Alzheimer's disease for depressed people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or memory problems.

OSI to provide patient monitoring solutions for new hospital in Issaquah, WA

OSI Systems, a vertically integrated provider of specialized electronic products for critical applications in the Security and Healthcare industries, today announced that the Spacelabs Healthcare division has received an order for approximately $3 million from Swedish Medical Center to provide advanced patient monitoring solutions, which will be utilized at the non-profit health system's new hospital in Issaquah, WA.
