NeuroPace, Inc. today announced that results from its pivotal trial demonstrated the RNS- System, a novel investigational device that utilizes responsive brain neurostimulation, significantly reduced the frequency of seizures among people who have a common form of epilepsy that is difficult to treat with medication.
Doc Wayne Youth Services, a Mass.-based nonprofit that fuses sport and therapy to heal and strengthen youth, has been selected as a 2015 winner of the inaugural Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Sports Award. Other winners in this elite group include Tony Hawk Foundation and Chicago Fire Foundation. Doc Wayne Youth Services and the other winners will each receive a $5,000 award and will be honored at a Sept. 10, 2015 ceremony at RWJF headquarters in Princeton, N.J.
Older people with higher amounts of a key protein in their brains also had slower decline in their memory and thinking abilities than people with lower amounts of protein from the gene called brain-derived neurotrophic factor, or BDNF, according to a study published in the January 27, 2016, online issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
Researchers have developed a new and easier method of detecting irregular heart rhythms such as Atrial Fibrillation (AF or AFib) after a stroke. At present clinical rely upon standard cardiac telemetry to detect AF seen commonly after a stroke.
