The discovery of insulin nearly a century ago changed diabetes from a death sentence to a chronic disease. Today a team that includes researchers from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine announced a discovery that could lead to dramatic improvements in the lives of people managing diabetes.
Thoratec Corporation, a world leader in device-based mechanical circulatory support (MCS) therapies to save, support and restore failing hearts, said today that it has acquired an innovative catheter pump technology that it plans to use in the development of a minimally invasive, acute cardiac axial flow pump that can be delivered percutaneously in the cardiac catheterization lab and operating room.
MAP Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that the Company will present nine analyses relating to its LEVADEX™ orally inhaled migraine therapy product candidate, including analysis from the FREEDOM-301 Phase 3 trial, at the 2010 European Headache and Migraine Trust International Congress (EHMTIC) in Nice, France.
Almac is hosting its inaugural European Product Launch workshop in Boston, MA on 17th May 2011. Targeted specifically at the biopharmaceutical sector, the workshop provides consultative advice and services to US companies to successfully launch drug products onto the European market.
New research published in the September issue of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons offers important insights into the long-term impact of a major disaster on routine surgical services in a hospital. In the study, researchers at Ochsner Health System, New Orleans, LA, showed that although Hurricane Katrina resulted in a significant loss of surgical staff and an increase in the number of uninsured patients undergoing operations, greater cost efficiencies were achieved.
