Researchers from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai have found clear disparities in the way males and females-both those with schizophrenia and those who are healthy-discern the mental states of others.
An international consortium of scientists, led by researchers at Johns Hopkins University has identified two genes that when altered are closely associated with cleft lip and/or cleft palate. Cleft lip and cleft palate are among the world's most common congenital malformations and occur in one in every 700 births. The finding is the result of the largest family-based, genome-wide study of cleft lip and/or cleft palate conducted to date. The results were published online by the journal Nature Genetics.
The 64 students who make up the inaugural class of Florida Atlantic University's new Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine will receive their first white coats at a ceremony today to symbolically confirm their commitment to the profession of medicine.
Inovio Biomedical Corporation, a leader in DNA vaccine design, development and delivery, announced today that Dr. J. Joseph Kim, CEO, has been invited to present at EmTech, the Emerging Technologies Conference hosted by MIT and produced by MIT's Technology Review magazine. Drugs that enhance a process called oxidative stress were found to kill rhabdomyosarcoma tumor cells growing in the laboratory and possibly bolstered the effectiveness of chemotherapy against this aggressive tumor of muscle and other soft tissue. The findings are the latest from the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital-Washington University Pediatric Cancer Genome Project and appear in the December 9 edition of the scientific journal Cancer Cell.
