To determine the cause of extreme fatigue in Navy divers after routine missions, the Office of Naval Research (ONR) is sponsoring work examining the most critical weapon in a diver's arsenal-oxygen itself.
The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has named Melissa J. Moore, a professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, the winner of the society's 2011 William C. Rose Award.
While making smart glue, a team of engineers discovered a handy byproduct: hydrogen peroxide. In microgel form, it reduces bacteria and virus ability to infect by at least 99 percent.
