Scientists have shown that early growth hormone supplementation in rats with growth hormone deficiency can prevent defects in memory developing later in adulthood. The study, published in the Journal of Endocrinology is the first to show that memory defects in adults as a result of growth hormone deficiency arising in childhood can be prevented by growth hormone treatment during adolescence.
Unidym a majority owned subsidiary of Arrowhead Research announced today that it entered into a partnership with NanoIntegris, Inc., an Illinois-based supplier of carbon nanotubes. Effective October 27, 2010, NanoIntegris will distribute HiPco carbon nanotube products. HiPco nanotubes are valued by customers due to their small diameter range, ease of optical imaging, ease of chemical functionalization, compatibility with high frequency fiber optics research, and good batch to batch consistency.
Canadian researchers have discovered a novel molecular mechanism that prevents cancer. In the December 11 edition of the prestigious journal Molecular Cell, scientists from the Universit- de Montr-al and the Universit- de Sherbrooke explain how they found that the SOCS1 molecule prevents the cancer-causing activity of cytokines, hormones that are culprits in cancer-prone chronic inflammation diseases such as Crohns, in smokers and people exposed to asbestos.
A team of researchers at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Rutgers University, USA, have investigated a case wherein a man experienced recurrent episodes of Guillain–Barré Syndrome after being infected with SARS-CoV-2.
Scientists believe that knowing exactly which type of dirt provides the best 'education' for the immune system, could be key to providing new treatments for diseases such as asthma.
