The buildup of plaque in the heart's arteries is an unfortunate part of aging. But by studying the genetic makeup of people who maintain clear arteries into old age, researchers led by UNC's Jonathan Schisler, PhD, have identified a possible genetic basis for coronary artery disease (CAD), as well as potential new opportunities to prevent it.
The 'Help is Here Express' bus tour will be stopping in Iowa, Southern Illinois, and Southern Indiana throughout the week of October 12 - 16th at various cities in order to help uninsured and financially-struggling Midwesterners access information on programs that provide prescription medicines for free or nearly free.
A new unique study from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom looked at a group of participants and asked them to detect digitally manipulated fake images. They found that one third of the fake and altered images went undetected by most participants. The study entitled "Can people identify original and manipulated photos of real-world scenes?" was published in the journal Cognitive Research: Principles and Implications.
Individual patient outcomes and overall community health can be enhanced and improved when medical providers partner with patients and families in the design and delivery of health care services, according to a leading patient advocate in her keynote address at the National Association for Healthcare Quality annual educational conference.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday expressed concern over widespread flooding in Pakistan and "pledged the United Nations' continued commitment to supporting the government in its efforts to respond to the humanitarian needs of the more than five million people in the affected areas," the U.N. News Centre reports.
