Opioid abuse is a serious public health problem that has reached crisis levels across the United States, with 44 people dying each day from overdose of opioids, and many more becoming addicted. Recognizing the urgency and serious impact of this issue on the health of hundreds of thousands of patients across the country, today the American Medical Association Task Force to Reduce Opioid Abuse announced the first of several national recommendations to address this growing epidemic.
Speech problems such as stammering or stuttering plague millions of people worldwide, including 3 million Americans.
The WHO Fracture Risk Assessment Tool (FRAX-) is being used increasingly by physicians to help evaluate fracture risk and identify those people who are most in need of osteoporosis treatment. To date, FRAX- models are available for 26 countries, with more currently in planning.
Archives Of Pediatrics And Adolescent Medicine: Hospital-Based Programs For Children With Special Health Care Needs: Implications Of Health Care Reform - This study looks at 33 hospital-based comprehensive care programs for children with special needs to evaluate their effectiveness.
A clinical study presented at ANESTHESIOLOGY 2010 discovered that diabetics who presented for non-cardiac surgery with near normal blood sugar levels were at increased risk of death, as compared with their non-diabetic counterparts.
