It's an ongoing debate: Should men over a certain age be treated for prostate cancer? Should these patients be submitted to treatments that may result in significant side effects if they may not live very much longer?
Mazor Robotics Ltd., the leader in innovative surgical robots and complementary products for spine surgery, signed an agreement for the purchase of a Renaissance system with Richard R. M. Francis, MD, of Spine Associates of Houston and the Houston Orthopedic and Spine Hospital, formerly known as Foundation Surgical Hospital, in Bellaire, Texas.
Two Clemson University researchers seek to make diners mindful of mindless eating. Psychology professor Eric Muth and electrical and computer engineering professor Adam Hoover have created the Bite Counter, a measurement device that will make it easier for people to monitor how much they eat.
Melanoma is one of the less common types of skin cancer but it accounts for the majority of the skin cancer deaths (about 75 percent).The five-year survival rate for early stage melanoma is very high (98 percent), but the rate drops precipitously if the cancer is detected late or there is recurrence.So a great deal rides on the accuracy of the initial surgery, where the goal is to remove as little tissue as possible while obtaining "clean margins" all around the tumor.So far no imaging technique has been up to the task of defining the melanoma's boundaries accurately enough to guide surgery.Instead surgeons tend to cut well beyond the visible margins of the lesion in order to be certain they remove all the malignant tissue.Two scientists at Washington University in St. Louis have developed technologies that together promise to solve this difficult problem.
Odyssey HealthCare, Inc., one of the largest providers of hospice care in the United States, today announced that its stockholders have adopted the previously announced merger agreement providing for the acquisition of Odyssey by Gentiva Health Services, Inc.. At today's special meeting of Odyssey stockholders, holders of approximately 80.4% of the outstanding shares of Odyssey common stock entitled to vote at the meeting voted to adopt the merger agreement and approve the merger.
