Clinicians may be able to better predict the effects of strokes and other brain injuries by adapting a scanning approach originally developed for study of brain organization, neurologists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have found.
Abnormalities of eye movement and fixation may contribute to difficulty in perceiving and recognizing faces among older adults with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), suggests a study "Abnormal Fixation in Individuals with AMD when Viewing an Image of a Face" appearing in the January issue of Optometry and Vision Science, official journal of the American Academy of Optometry.
Mayo Clinic researchers have discovered a way to dramatically boost the output of immune system cells from the thymus, which may lead to improved cancer vaccines, as well as to ways to otherwise strengthen immune responses.
Marijuana use is rising steadily across the US as more and more states enact laws making it a legal recreational and medicinal agent. However, a new study underlines the fact that this is, in fact, playing with an unknown substance, which may cause serious bodily harm. The review article, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, shows that more than 2 million adults who currently have heart or vascular disease gave a history of being currently on marijuana products, or having used them in the past.
