Researchers at the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine have taken another step toward a potential treatment for Huntington's disease (HD). Using an approach called RNA interference (RNAi), the scientists reduced levels of the disease-causing HD protein in mice and significantly improved the movement and neurological abnormalities normally associated with the disease.
The White House, however, opposes the bill on grounds that it could weaken the health law's consumer protections, although it stopped short of threatening a veto.
Researchers have created a new type of biosensor that can detect minute concentrations of glucose in saliva, tears and urine and might be manufactured at low cost because it does not require many processing steps to produce.
Researchers at the São Paulo State Cancer Institute in Brazil have succeeded in using a genetically manipulated virus to destroy tumor cells upon injection into mice with prostate cancer.
Agilent Technologies Inc. and Ambry Genetics today announced that Ambry is the first organization to achieve Certified Service Provider (CSP) status for Agilent's SureSelect Target Enrichment System for next-generation sequencing.
