Scientists have identified the gene that sets off a sequence of events in the blood vessels of otherwise healthy adults that can lead to high blood pressure.
Recently, brain researchers have gained a powerful new way to troubleshoot neural circuits associated with depression, Parkinson's disease and other conditions in small animals such as rats. They use an optogenetics technology, invented at Stanford University, that precisely turns select brain cells on or off with flashes of light. Although useful, the optogenetics tool set has been limited.
The current study found that people were at a slightly higher than normal risk of blood clots after receiving Oxford-AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines.
Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Limited, a global biopharmaceutical company with unique expertise on the interaction of light and human skin, today announced positive results of its first US Phase II study of the novel photoprotective drug afamelanotide, known as SCENESSE.
Last night at the 38th annual Jefferson Awards, Mark W. Kline, M.D., physician-in-chief at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston and chair of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, was honored with the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award for "Outstanding Community Service Benefiting Local Communities" for his dedication to treating children affected by HIV/AIDS around the world
