On the 20th anniversary of World Breastfeeding Week, which begins Wednesday, "UNICEF says strong national policies supporting breastfeeding could prevent the deaths of around one million children under five in the developing world each year," a UNICEF press release states.
WuXi PharmaTech, a leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device research and development outsourcing company with operations in China and the United States, today announced it has reached an agreement with Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, a division of Janssen Pharmaceutica N.V. (JANSSEN), to collaborate in the area of preclinical services.
Researchers at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia successfully developed and validated a new outcome measure to monitor disease severity and progression in patients with impaired skeletal muscle function caused by mitochondrial disease.
A study combining genetic data with brain imaging, designed to identify genes associated with the amyloid plaque deposits found in Alzheimer's disease patients, has not only identified the APOE gene - long associated with development of Alzheimer's - but has uncovered an association with a second gene, called BCHE.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Zika virus infection a global threat during the peak of its outbreak in 2016. Since then, scientists and health experts raced to understand the virus better to develop novel and effective vaccines and treatments for the disease.
