The genetic factors that cause increased sleep problems during times of stress seem to be the same as those that make people with intrusive and ruminative thoughts have a higher prevalence of insomnia, according to a research abstract that will be presented on Tuesday, June 9, at SLEEP 2009, the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies.
Maxygen, a biotechnology company focused on the development of improved protein drugs, today announced the initiation of a Phase I clinical study to evaluate a next-generation CTLA4-Ig therapeutic that is being developed by Perseid Therapeutics LLC, Maxygen's majority-owned subsidiary, in collaboration with Astellas Pharma Inc. for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and potentially other autoimmune indications.
When patients receive chemotherapy, 15 percent will have severe side effects while 85 percent will not - even though they're given the same relative dose.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a heart condition that causes an irregular, and often rapid, heart rate. It increases the risk of developing strokes, heart failure, and even dementia. Although it can be associated with aging, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart valve problems, etc, about one-third of patients with AF have no symptoms until they suffer a stroke.
