For the first time, a dollar value has been attached to the high cost of pain in Australia in an MBF Foundation funded study that reveals a massive annual cost of $34.3 billion - nearly $11,000 for each of the estimated 3.2 million people grappling with pain.
Students at Louisiana State University today heard an executive with Baton Rouge-based Amedisys talk about how quality is measured in health care and why it should matter to all Americans. Amedisys is the largest home health care and hospice company in the U.S., providing care to more than 35,000 patients every day.
NanoIntegris, Inc. announced today that it entered into a distribution contract with Kanto Chemical Co., Inc. NanoIntegris is the world's only supplier of 99% enriched metallic and semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes. Research companies and universities are currently using NanoIntegris' carbon nanotubes to develop emerging technologies such as printable transistors, chemical sensors, and biomedical applications such as imaging and drug delivery.
Women under age 50 who have been diagnosed with endometrial cancer, and first, second and third degree relatives of patients with colorectal cancer may have an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer (CRC), according to two separate studies unveiled today at the American College of Gastroenterology's (ACG) 77th Annual Scientific meeting in Las Vegas.
An international team of researchers, led by Dr. Earl Silverman of The Hospital for Sick Children (Sick Kids), has found that two arthritis medications (methotrexate and leflunomide) commonly used in adults are safe and effective in children. This research is reported in the April 21, 2005 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine.
