Emergency department patients who have recently been hospitalized are more than twice as likely to be admitted as those who have not recently been in the hospital, according to new research from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania which will be presented this week at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine's annual meeting.
New research indicates that subtle structural features of donated kidneys from living donors may predict the risk of kidney transplant failure in recipients.
A multidisciplinary team from two Johns Hopkins University institutions, including neurotoxicologists and virologists from the Bloomberg School of Public Health and infectious disease specialists from the school of medicine, has found that organoids (tiny tissue cultures made from human cells that simulate whole organs) known as "mini-brains" can be infected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.
Pharmaceutical companies are finding innovative new strategies to retain market share after drug patent expiration. One of the most successful of these new strategies appears to be 'flanking.' Under this strategy, brand-name drug companies sign licensing agreements with their generic competitors to establish manufacturer- distributor relationships.
The longer an immigrant lives in the U.S. the more likely they are to be obese, according to a study in the December 15 issue of JAMA.
